The councillors for Natural Environment Management and Tourism, Isabel García and José Gregorio Martín Plata, respectively, explained the technical aspects and collected their suggestions, which they will continue to receive in writing.
The inauguration of the trail, which will take place in the summer, will mean the entry into force of the regulations, which will mean that access will be in groups of up to 25 people who will have to register online, wear a helmet and sign a document accepting the rules.
The island councillors responsible for Natural Environment Management and Tourism, Isabel García and José Gregorio Martín Plata, met this Monday with the tourism and transport companies involved in the development of the activity of descending the Masca ravine. The main purpose of the meeting was to inform them of the management model devised by both areas and to gather their impressions on the subject, as well as their suggestions for implementing the same in the area around the farmhouse, which will be put into operation next summer.
García explained that “in the document that has been drawn up, two fundamental aspects are paramount: safety and conservation”. He added: “The aim is to ensure that the capacity is adequate to safeguard the safety of visitors, as well as the natural values of the ravine”. In this way, he explained that the entrance to the path will be in groups of “a maximum of 25 people, who will have to sign a document accrediting that they know the rules and characteristics of the path, as well as being equipped with a helmet”.
For his part, Martin Plata has valued the work of the Natural Environment, describing it as “very interesting from an environmental point of view, but with a significant impact on tourism”; therefore, he confirmed “the support for the management of the area led by Isabel Garcia, which has culminated in the outline on which many of the contributions of the companies will be added, which may be interesting”.
Thus, among the aspects included today in the model that, in addition to being presented to them, will be sent to all the business representatives, is the frequency of departure of the groups, which will probably be able to start entering from 8.30 in the morning. In addition, it must be accredited that the arrival at the departure point has been made in a public or private transport vehicle, and the access ticket, which will be purchased through the virtual platform – currently being developed – will include both the descent of the ravine via the path and the exit by sea through the service offered by one of the companies that carry it out.
Both men invited the different companies, who were very participative at the meeting, to send their proposals to the Tourism Department of the island institution, and to another meeting, which will take place when all the proposals have been received and evaluated, to show them the draft of the regulations that will govern the operation of the park.
